![]() Dr. Stewart LipsonAssociate ProfessorDr. Lipson completed a urologic residency at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in 1981 and remained at Michael Reese on the attending staff . While at Michael Reese he developed an interest in urologic stone disease and was the principal investigator for development of the first tubeless extracorporeal shock wave lithotripter (Medstone). He was Vice Chairman of the Department of Urology and Director of the Michael Reese Stone Center until 1989 when he moved to Rochester, New York. For the past sixteen years he has practiced urology in Rochester, both in the community and at Strong Memorial Hospital (University of Rochester) and has continued his interest in treating complicated urinary calculi with extracorporeal, percutaneous and ureteroscopic techniques. In addition to stone disease, Dr. Lipson has had extensive uro-oncologic experience with emphasis in laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, nephrectomy and partial nephrectomy, cystectomy with neo-bladder and brachytherapy for cancer of the prostate. At UIC he will be performing DaVinci robotic prostatectomy. He returned to Chicago and the Department of Urology at UIC in 2005.
