Known Donor Bank

The University Andrology Laboratory offers a Known Donor Banking Program for patients interested in using a Known or a Directed Donor, such as a family member or close friend for assisted reproductive procedures.

  1. Screening

  2. All potential Known or Directed Donors must be found to be suitable candidates to enter this program. They should be tested as rigorously as anonymous donors. The screening process should include testing for infectious diseases and a semen analysis. Tests for infectious diseases includes:

    1. HIV-1, HTLV-I and HTLV-II for AIDS testing
    2. HBV and HCV for Hepatitis B and C
    3. Treponema pallidum (Syphilis)
    4. Neisseria gonorrhea
    5. Chlammydia trachomatis
    6. Cytomegalo Virus (CMV)

This testing must be completed 7 to 14 days prior to or after the first donation. This testing cannot be omitted or waived. This is a requirement of the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

The six month quarantine and the retesting requirements no longer apply per new FDA regulations.

  3. Please Keep in Mind....

  4. Our Patient Banking Program is responsible for the processing, storage and distribution of semen from Known or Directed Donors. We are not responsible for all the phases of testing.
