Androlog Mail
I have an odd question. Does anyone have any
experience treating men with Hansen's Disease (Leprosy)?
I have a patient who came to see me for secondary
infertility recently. He has a 3 year old daughter. He
has a diagnosis of Hansen's Disease and is on Thalidomide
and Clofazimine. He had a count of 500,000/cc
approximately 1 year ago but recently had azoospermia on 2
analyses. His hormone profile was within normal limits.
Biopsy revealed hypospermatogenesis with some ?maturation
arrest. I referred them onto my REI for consideration of
ICSI.
My question relates to the use of Thalidomide in male
partners of women who have undergone ART. It states in the
PDR (from the drug company!) that men who come into contact
with women of reproductive age should use barrier
contraception at all times. Does anyone know of any real
life experience? If we take him off his Thalidomide (with
permission from his Hansenologist) should we wait one
spermatogenic cycle to recycle him for ICSI?
