Androlog Mail:
In response to Dr. Sarkar's query regarding a woman desiring insemination
with both her husband and brother-in-law's washed semen. In the past, we
have frequently inseminated a women with anonymous donor sperm plus her
husband's sperm (husband plus donor). Usually the donor would be a cervical
insemination, and the husband IUI. This was done mainly because, like it or
not, some couples even though they are committed to using donor, still feel
comfortable if the husband's sperm were there, and they could "not know"
whose sperm may have fertilized. We have had a couple of cases of directed
donor situations where the directed donors were 2 brothers of the husband.
The husband and wife did not want to know which one we chose for her
insemination each cycle, and therefore, no one would know whose sperm (which
brother)actually did cause the pregnancy. At any rate, if Dr. Sarkar's
program does go ahead to use the husband plus his brother, the brother is
considered a "known or directed" donor, and should be treated the same as an
anonymous donor. We treat known donors - the complete STD testing as
required by NYS, plus cryopreservation and storage for 6 months, with
complete pre-release testing. I hope this helps.
