Regarding Stray Sperm during Staining...
This is really not that uncommon and is the basis for the CAP inspection
checklist question about performing daily checks on stains used for
morphology.

I believe my graduate advisor, Matthew Freund, published on the subject but
it was something that he showed us examples of when teaching us to do
morphology. If the slides are not well made you can "elute" the sperm right
off and then onto the next person's slides. IT is particularly instructive
to do this with a sample that has a characteristic abnormality followed by
someone who is "Normal"

It all points to the need for a comprehensive QC program for making slides
and stains and checking them for contamination. Many think this a simple
process with no opportunity for problems instead of a high complexity test.
